When I try to resume a download, IDM fails to do this although it shows "Yes" as resume capability. What is the problem?

When I start a download, speed is good but then it drops to zero and download never completes. What is the problem?

  • Such problems can occur because of conflicts between IDM and other applications. For example some FireWall/Antivirus/Internet security application which controls traffic and all files (file parts) that are written on disk and can change or cache them.
For example such problems are confirmed with Bit Defender 2012: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=27854
Also some FireWall and Antiviruses may be not ready for Windows Vista or Windows 7 and work incorrectly.
The same problem can happen if you some proxy in IDM settings or if your provider uses some external proxy.

  • Try right clicking on a download in IDM list and select "Refresh download address" from the popup menu.

  • 1. right click on the download which had been cancelled and choose “REFRESH DOWNLOAD ADDRESS”.

    2. Remember NOT to click on resume download . After choosing “REFRESH DOWNLOAD ADDRESS” , a dialog box will appear and choosing OK will open an Internet Explorer window taking you to the same address you  downloaded earlier  from . e.g  mediafire etc  . If you are using Firefox then you will have to copy the URL opened in Firefox to Internet Explorer in this step.
    3. A small dialog box will also appear having ” IDM is waiting for the new address to resume the file…” , just place it aside and right click on the download  option and choose “Download with IDM”  just the way you did before or just click on the download link simply.
    4. Click “ok” and again right click on download option to choose “Download with idm” , this time following dialog box appears
    5. You have to choose  the third option and to resume the download and it will continue from the place it got canceled.

  • I think it must be your firewall's problem to cause this. So the proxy is blocked.
