What's the difference between Dolby 5.1 and Dolby AC-3?

08/30/2011 02:10 by maxkitty

I want to buy a home theater sound system for my Phillips flat Panel LCD TV. Just wondering what the difference is between Dolby5.1 and AC-3. Do I need to know or does the Tv play either. I am thinking about am inexpensive system around $200.00 like a Sony or RCA or similar. Something you might find at Walmart

  • I believe AC-3 is actually a sound format from Dolby. Dolby 5.1 means its compatible with 5.1 surround sound
