  • Keys

A primary key is a value unique to its table. A database administrator will often use a program-generated number as the primary key instead of using a data column, which could contain multiple instances of the same value. A foreign key is a value in a table that matches the value of another table's primary key. This allows a query language, such as SQL, to return a result from combining data from different tables.

    Normalization

Normalization is the process of eliminating data redundancy and promoting logical data organization into distinct tables. Each progressive level of normalization is referred to as a "normal form" with third normal form typically suitable for most database applications.

    Relationships

A one-to-one relationship indicates that a given value of one table is associated with only one value in another. A one-to-many relationship is between a value of one table that's associated with many values in another. A many-to-many relationship indicates that a value within the first table can be associated with many values in the second, while a value in the second table can be associated with many values in the first.
