There are various audio and video formats files in popular recently. I choose parts to introduce briefly:
Audio Playing Formats:
MP3: MPEG-3, the most popular
audio file formats recently, with high compression ratio,compressed
audio by 1:10 even 1:12,its sampling rate is 44KHz and bit rate is
12kbits;
WAV: to record wave of sound,if
only with high sampling rate,long sampling byte and high speed,there
will be a sound with high quality ,but the file is oversized;
AAC: a way of digital audio
compression,with some characteristic which MP3 have not as prefect
stereo,bit rate effect scan,media controlling and decrease confusion
etc.After compression,there remains perfect CD tone and compresses the
files to 50%-30% compare to MP3;
WMA: The short name of Window Media Audio, have two
formats of compression with harm and compression without harm.The former
is usual and the effect is better than MP3,the latter with high
capability.
Normal Video Playing Formats:
ASF: Full name is Advanced
Streaming Format, a media file formats which is exploited for Windows
98 by Microsoft and its glossary can interchange WMA with WMV;
WMV: a stream format exploited
by Microsoft,which is come from ASF(Advanced Stream Format)through
updating.In the same video quality,WMV format is fit for playing and
transmitting on line with small bulk;
MOV: Technical characteristic
with cross platform and small storage.But the MOV format file with
harmful compression is better than AVI format in image effect;
MPEG: Full name is Moving
Picture Experts.The MPEG compression standard aims at the movement
picture to design,and its basal way is---its may realize compression
between the frame,and its average compression ratio may reach 50:
1,the compression ratio is quite high and has the unification format
and good compatibility.MPEG-1 applies in VCD widely.MPEG-4 is a kind

DivX: The DivX format is a
digital video decode(Codec) using the MPEG-4 technology.This file
format compresses the high quality video to the video which enough to
spread in the Internet,and thus satisfies the user's actual demand;
AVI(Audio Video Interleaved):
Good compatible, transfer conveniently,and the picture quality is
good, but the file volume is oversized, thus expedites the MPEG.
