Problem "word could not create the work file - check the temp environment variable"
01/31/2012 00:14 by jvanhorn
I've attempted at least 6 searches across different parts of the microsoft site to find some instructions to fix this error (message received when trying to attach word 2007 vista files to an email).
Started about a day ago and I've already done a system restore which has not fixed it
must be looking at the wrong spots on this website because I would be certain the instructions to fix this would surely already exist.

please see and follow carefully this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005
"How to reset user options and registry settings in Word".
I simply pointed the registry entry to my temp folder start Word and it works fine. Navigate to the registry key below:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft >Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > User Shell Folders > Cache
Change: the value to your TEMP folder like %USERPROFILE%\TEMP
To open the registry:
click on START > RUN then
type in regedit
had the same problem from before and fixed it. written a blog post about it too at
