Have you tried more than one DVD? Have you uninstalled and tried reinstalling the software?
I would first rule out the DVD itself before targeting the actual hardware. If the DVD works in another machine then i'd uninstall powerdvd under add/remove programs in control panel. Then reinstall the software. Try the DVD again.
