Go to Avid's Upgrading to Mojo DX page and click on the "Upgrade" option button on the top right.
Click on the Avid Media Composer Upgrade picture, which will take you to the Avid store where you can purchase the upgrade. Click on the drop-down menu and choose the version you want to purchase. Make sure it says "(Download)" next to it. Click "Add to Cart."
Review the options you've chosen and the package you're about to purchase and click "Proceed to checkout." On the continuing pages, fill out your billing and shipping addresses, as well as your credit card information, and click "Submit." A pop-up window will prompt you to start the download.
Choose where you're going to save the downloadable upgrade file and then click "OK." The progress bar will present itself telling you how much time you have remaining. Once it's done downloading, open the file and install the upgrade.
Download the PowerDVD Ultra build "3901" update file from Cyberlink.com or brothersoft.com.
Save the downloaded update file to your desired location (default location is either the desktop or Downloads folder) and then double-click the file to launch the Install Wizard.
Click the "Next" button and enter your PowerDVD 9 product key. After entering a proper product key, the update process begins.
Click the "Finish" button when the Install Wizard prompts you that the task was completed successfully. This will finish the process of updating your PowerDVD 9 software to the latest version.
Click "Start."
Click "Control Panel."
Click "Parental Controls."
Click the icon for the user name that you would like to restrict from accessing PowerDVD.
Click "Allow and Block Specific Programs." Click the "Can Only Use Programs I Allow" option. A list of all programs installed on your computer will appear on screen. Click the "Check All" button to select all of the programs in the list. Locate PowerDVD in the list on screen and clear the check box next to its name. Click "OK." The user account you have specified will now no longer be able to use PowerDVD.
Open PowerDVD DX from its desktop or "Start" folder shortcut icons if the program window is not already being displayed on your monitor.
Click the "Configuration" button in the PowerDVD toolbar. A new "Configuration" window will open.
Click the "Video" tab at the top of the "Configuration" window. From this tab, scroll down to the "Screen Control" section and click "Screen is Always On Top."
Click "Apply" to keep PowerDVD DX on top of all other program windows on your computer.
Check the computer's user manual. If you do not have an HD DVD drive installed on the computer, you will not be able to view HD DVDs on that computer, regardless of the program in use.
Look at the DVD you are using and make sure it is in HD DVD format and not Blu-ray. Although both are HD formats, each requires different hardware for playing on a computer. Because of this, Blu-ray discs do not play on a computer's HD drive.
Clean off the bottom of the HD DVD with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust from the disc. This debris prevents a disc drive from playing an HD DVD.
Exit the PowerDVD Ultra 7 software, and then restart the computer. Occasionally a computer does not power on correctly, causing some hardware to function incorrectly. Restarting the computer corrects these issues.
Click on "Start," then "All Programs" to access PowerDVD 9. Select the program from the menu to launch it and wait for it to start up.
Open the settings window by clicking on the settings button on the playback control pad. The settings button looks like a tiny hammer and screwdriver standing next to each other.
Locate the three rows on tabs at the top of the settings window. Find the tab labeled "User Interface" and click on it to gain access to the skin library.
Click on the button labeled "Download" at the top of the "User Interface" window. Wait for the downloads from the PowerDVD section on CyberLink to complete to update the skins library.
Select the drop-down menu right below the "Download" button to select the Mode you want to create a skin for. The modes will be Classic mode or Cinema mode.
Choose the skin from the lowest drop-down menu for the selected mode. Do the same for the remaining mode, then press "OK" to save the skins to their modes.
Pause your video in PowerDVD. Wait a few seconds, and then press "Play" again to see if the syncing issue is fixed. Sometimes when your computer's memory gets taken up by other programs, this could cause the audio and video to lose sync in PowerDVD. If the problem is as simple as the program not having enough memory, a simple "Pause" and then "Play" will fix the problem.
Update PowerDVD to the newest version by selecting the "Customize" button and then "Check for Updates." Newer versions of PowerDVD may be more equipped to work properly with your operating system, so simply keeping PowerDVD updated will fix a lot of the basic audio and video issues you are having.
Change your Windows color scheme. PowerDVD cannot work properly with a lot of the more "advanced" visual features of newer Windows operating systems, like the "Aero" color scheme. Right-click on your desktop, select "Personalize" and change your "Color Scheme" to "Basic" while watching a DVD to prevent audio and video synchronization issues.
Examine the data side of the DVD you're trying to watch. Any scratches or dust on the actual disc itself could cause the audio and video to lose sync in PowerDVD. Clean off the disc as much as you can with a dry, soft cloth and attempt to load the disc in PowerDVD again.
Navigate to the Cyberlink website
Click "PowerDVD." Select the option you want to purchase. Select from standard, deluxe or ultra. Ultra enables you to play more audio formats, including Blu-ray. Click "Add to Cart."
Click "Secure Checkout." Type in your contact information, including a valid email address where a serial number will be sent. Select your billing method; then confirm and finalize your purchase.
Click "Download Now" after purchasing and click "Run." When the download is complete, the installation window will open automatically.
Read and accept the terms and agreements; then type in the serial number sent to you on your email account after you purchased the software. Select the destination folder to install your program to then finalize the installation.
Plug your DVD movie into the DVD-ROM of your computer and launch PowerDVD from the location where you saved it.
Locate the multi-digit activation key that you received when you purchased your copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD 8. If you purchased a physical copy of the software, this key will be inside the box on a slip of paper. If you purchased a digital download, it will be in an email you received. If you have not yet purchased the software, do so from the Cyberlink website.
Open CyberLink PowerDVD 8. Click "Start," "All Programs," "CyberLink PowerDVD 8," then "Cyberlink PowerDVD 8" again.
Right-click anywhere in the main CyberLink PowerDVD 8 program window. Click "Activate."
Type your multi-digit activation key into the boxes on screen and click "Activate." Your CyberLink PowerDVD 8 is now activated.
Launch PowerDVD. You don't need to load a DVD first, since you can still change the program's settings without running an actual disc.
Look for the Configuration icon on the main screen. It's small and sort of inconspicuous, but the icon shows a cartoonish image of a hammer and a screwdriver that's easy to spot. Click on it.
Switch to the "User Interface" tab once the Configuration panel opens.
View the preview of the player's current skin. Just above that there's a button marked "Download." Click on it to open the selection of new available skins.
Check the boxes next to the new skins you'd like to download. You can download more than one, so feel free to check as many as you want. When you've finished doing that, click "Download."
Choose a new skin from the "Select Skin" drop-down menu. Then, click "OK" at the bottom of the Configuration panel to load the new skin.
Make sure you actually have a drive that supports the type of disc you are trying to play. For your computer to play a DVD, you have to have some type of DVD drive. For a Blu-ray, you need to have a Blu-ray compatible drive. Without these specific pieces of hardware, PowerDVD will be unable to play these discs if the drive will not recognize them.
Make sure your discs are free from any smudges, dust and dirt. If anything is contaminating the data side of the DVD or Blu-ray disc, your drive's laser will be unable to read the information contained on them. This will make it impossible for PowerDVD to play the discs. Use a clean, smooth cloth to wipe any dirt or dust away from the data side of the discs.
Reinstall the software. If PowerDVD is failing to load or work properly, there is a chance the program was installed incorrectly or files have become corrupted. Simply uninstall the software using the "Add/Remove Programs" feature of your operating system and use the installation disc to reinstall the program correctly.
Make sure you have the latest firmware or device driver for your DVD drive. Both "firmware" and a "device driver" are two small pieces of computer software designed to make sure that your hardware (in this case, a DVD or Blu-ray drive) can operate correctly with your operating system. Go to the manufacturer's website of your drive, search for your exact model number and download and install any firmware updates or driver updates that may be available.
Open PowerDVD via the "PowerDVD" folder in your "Start" menu.
Click the "Source" button near the "Play" button on the left hand side of the window. Click "From File."
Select the DivX file from your hard drive that you want to play in PowerDVD. Click "Open." The DivX file will immediately start playing in PowerDVD.
Insert your DVD and navigate to the desired scene. Capturing a frame from your DVD can be done simply by pressing "C" on your computer keyboard during playback. This is the hotkey that performs the "Capture" function. This will be automatically set to save your file to the clipboard, so it can be pasted into an image editing program and saved. You also can set Power DVD to capture the image as a file, or to save it to your wallpaper. (Read on to learn how to do this.)
Click the "More Functions" icon to bring up the additional menu. The "More Functions" icon looks like a keypad, in a square of nine blocks. On Power DVD 10 it is on the left hand side of the main control panel. On version 9 it is towards the centre.
Locate the "Capture" button on the "More Functions" menu. The capture button is a camera icon, which is located among the icons in the lower-right corner of the menu (on version 10, click the "Down" arrow to display all the options). "Capture" is in the bottom-right corner of the block of icon buttons in version 10, and the top-right corner of it in version 9. In version 8, the "Capture" button is located in the center of the main control panel. (So there is no need to enter the "More Functions" menu).
Right-click on the button to display the "Capture" options. Select the options you desire. You can change the size of the image, and where it is saved to.
Left-click the "Capture" button to take a screen shot of the video currently playing.
