Find the list of programs that are being block or allowed. Find your internet connection ( for me its a Linksys router with "bonjeur service" under my router ). It will be set to "?" or "ask
permission" . Simply change the settings to "Allow Always" and you
might want to do the same for your internet browser ( InternerEx or
FireFox or Chrome ).
You don't have to change anything to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. The
free version of MBAM doesn't offer real-time protection so it shouldn't
interfere with anything.
Although...
AVG Free really isn't that great. According to the *official* AVG
website, it doesn't include anti-rootkit or a web shield (two very
important features). Furthermore, independent testing has found AVG
detection rates to be rather AVeraGe.
No contest, PC Tools.
There are three excellent, free, firewalls, PC Tools is one of them.
The other two are Comodo and OnlineArmor (OA is very easy to use). The Windows firewall is so poor that, along with ZoneAlarm free
The easiest way is to re-install your firewall. Otherwise you will have to look through the settings of your firewall program and lower some security settings or find the port that your firewall
blocked and unblock it. But again the easiest way is just to reinstall
the program so it goes back to its default settings.
I've tested it on a Vista Home Premium laptop and found it light on
resources and easy to configure (compared with Comodo Firewall); when
you install, it asks you whether you want normal mode or expert mode - I
chose normal mode and that simplified matters considerably. So far so
good; I run it alongside Avira Antivir (although PC Tools Antivirus is excellent too) and Pc Tools Threatfire with no issues. When you
reboot after installation, you will get several alerts from programs
requesting access to various system resources - if you disable these,
some programs you rely on may not work properly so you will need to go
into settings to allow them. Make a note of the programs/processes you
disabled. Frankly, if you are satisfied that your system isn't infected,
alllow all requests and disable as necessary later.
As firewalls, they offer comparable performance in protecting against
both inbound and outbound threats. (both are much better than ZoneAlarm free edition, which will catch your programs going outbound, but not most
trojans.) PC Tools Firewall Plus is more active in prompting about
program components connecting to the internet, sometimes prompting 2 or 4
times about a different component of a program, while Comodo will prompt once about a program, let you give the allow or deny response, then quiets down.
I think you need an antispyware software to defend your computer against so many spyware attacks that can harm your computer every day. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a very good antimalware software, It will clean your computer successfully in case of an infection.
You can also use SpyBot - Search & Destroy which is a very good antispyware application
that immunizes your computer against large number of spyware and
malware, it has a high detection rate and consumes low system resources.
PC Tools Firewall Plus is a piece of crap, uninstall it. If you really need an outbound firewall use instead firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
