  • You will not be able to cancel the encryption, as it is an inbuilt feature.
You can suspend or resume the encryption.
    1. Open Bit locker Drive Encryption by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking Bit locker Drive Encryption.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • To temporarily suspend Bit Locker, click Suspend Protection, and then click Yes.
      • To turn off Bit Locker and decrypt the drive, click Turn off Bit Locker, and then click Decrypt Drive

  • I need that answer too. I kind of figured that you probably couldn't cancel the initial encrypting procedure in the current version of Bitlocker.  From a programmers standpoint, Im sure you can add this feature in a future release. Please add a "Cancel Encryption Format/Procedure/Process" in the next release.

  • I tried this method and it worked out for me.
    1. Pause the encryption process
    2. Copy all the content of the drive to another location
    3. Format the drive (Quick Format)
Now the encryption window goes off. Hope this helps others as well.

  • Yes, I have found a way to cancel encryption. When you are encrypting, click pause (I was at 0.02%. Never encrypt a 500GB Drive). Then go into the BitLocker control panel in the Control Panel. Then click on "Turn off BitLocker" or "Decrypt drive". This should reverse the process and leave your data untouched.

  • LOL! "how to pause?" Click on more in your taskbar & Click on bitlocker unlock. (I Even didn't pause it! I was encrypting 1TB, 0.01% All day LONG!!!)

    ● But you have to pause it at all. Go to Start menu, open Control panel, search the BitLocker equipment and then find your mass storage out. turn it off. Have fun... ^_\\

  • To cancel the encryption process, you must pause the encryption first. To do that run "cmd" as Administrator, enter the following command for each disk that's being encrypted:

    manage-bde -pause C:

    manage-bde -pause E:

Then go to Control Panel, select "Bitlocker Drive Encryption", click "Turn Off Bitlocker" for each drive you want to decrypt.
