  • To use nero startsmart, select the menu on the left. Select the option to burn a cd or dvd. Keep in mind that if you are looking to burn a DVD, you must have a DVD burner installed on your computer.

  • Follow this to make a DVD Video in Nero StartSmart.
    1. Open up Nero Start Smart, and click on the "DVD" option at the top of the screen. The other options are CD or DVD/CD. Click on the "Photo and Video" icon that shows a picture of a Polaroid and a film strip.
    2. Click on selection that says "Make Your Own DVD-Video." Wait for the "Nero Burning Rom" program to load. A new project will automatically start in this program. The window will feature a project timeline and options to the right.
    3. Add videos to your project by drag and dropping them into the program, or by clicking the link that says "Add Video Files." Use the meter on the bottom of the screen to see how much data your DVD is in total. The bar will appear blue if there is enough room, but it will turn red if the DVD is full.
    4. Click on the "Create Chapters" option in order to set custom chapters for the movie you are burning. If you want the program to set automatic chapters for the DVD, click on the "More" icon, and then click the checkbox that says "Create Chapters Automatically."
    5. Press the "Next" icon when all the videos have been added and the chapters have been creating. The next portion of the DVD creating is the menu creation. Fill in the header of the DVD menu. This can be as simple as "My DVD" or the title of the movie.
    6. Choose a background for the DVD on the right side of the screen. The program has default backgrounds that include categories like "Event" and "Nature," but you can also import a background of your choice.
    7. Click on the "Edit Menu" icon in order to change details of the DVD. Click on the "Layout" icon to choose a layout for your video icons. Change the font to make the DVD menu more appealing. Double-click on the video title to select a screenshot from the video for your DVD menu preview. Press "Next" when you have completed the menu editing.
    8. Play with a preview of the DVD in the "Preview" menu. Use the fake remote to scroll through the menu, play video files and navigate the DVD as you would on a real TV.
    9. Press the "Next" icon to make the final burning selections. Place a blank DVD into your drive and press the "Burn" button begin. The program will first convert all of the video files to make them compatible for a DVD, and then actually burn those files to the disc. The DVD will pop out of the computer drive once the process has completed.
