How to turn off subtitles in DivX player?

07/26/2011 09:49 by ScottHamman

I'm learning a language and want to watch the movie without the subtitle. How can I turn off it in DivX player? I have tried the preferences > subtitles but none of the boxes can turn it off. Anyone knows how? help, please.

  • No, I don't think you can turn off subtitles if it's is embedded with movie.

  • You'd better wait for Dvico to add default ON/OFF subtitles in the future firmware, 6500/7000 has it. There are two apps to do the job, but it takes a lots of time, think twice before you do... -MKVExtract -MKVMerge

  • I think that depends on whether your movie permits you to do that. If you play with a DVD disk, you should be able to hide the subtitle, but if the subtitle is embedded with the movie I don't think you could.

  • left click Settings
    left click Preferences
left click on + in Video - menu will slide down
left click Subtitles/OSD - under Subtitles uncheck the Autodetect subtitle files
    left click Save

  • But it should be in the Preferences, if that didn't work then you may not be able to turn it off.

  • In preferences if it does not let you turn off there is a subtitle delay just put 99999 in it by the time the subtitles come up the film will be finished, hope this helps and enjoy your movies.

  • If the subtitle is hardcoded, there is no way to remove the subtitles, except by cropping them out.

  • After a little bit of digging, I found an article: As we all know, video formats, such as MKV, MP4 and AVI, can contain several subtitle streams in different formats or languages in one file. Technically, subtitles are divided into two types: hard subtitle and soft subtitle in video files. Hard subtitle is a part of the video images, and you cannot disable or hide it when playing the video file. Soft subtitle is an independent stream, and you can turn on or turn off it when playing. The article also introduces a method on how to remove subtitle from MKV, MP4, AVI, etc, happy with it.

  • I use a software called Avdshare Video Converter which can remove subtitles from MKV, MOV, MP4

It can achieve different functions like delete subtitles from video, extract subtitles from video and add subtitles to video.

I like this all-in-one subtitle tool.

  • Playing an MKV video on my PC I have no subtitles.  When I use the Divx Server to send it to my Samsung Smart Tv I have subtitles...  Subtitling is disabled on my Divx Server and also on my TV...  What's up with that?
