Open the folder containing the duplicate files.
Right click anywhere in the window and select "Sort by Name." This will arrange all of the files in the folder alphabetically and make it easier for you to locate files with the same name.
Right click again and click "View." A menu will open and select "List." This will organize everything in a vertical list.
Scan through the list and locate duplicate files. When you spot duplicate files, scroll to the right and look at several aspects of the files. Two files may appear identical in name, but they may in fact be different files all together. Along the top of the window you will see several different columns: Name, Date Modified, Type and Size. The most important column to look at is the "Size" column. Compare the size of the two files. Secondly, compare the "Date Modified" columns.
Decide which file is the one you want to delete. If the two files are identical in every way then just choose one, right click on it and select "Delete." If there are discrepancies between the two files then a bit more investigation may be needed. If the sizes are the exact same then compare the "Date Modified" and keep the newer file. If there is a size difference, chances are you will want to keep the larger of the two files.
Right click on the "Recycle Bin" once you have deleted the duplicate files. Select "Empty Recycle Bin" to permanently delete the files.
