    1. Copy the data found in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec\Licenses" to a different storage location like a USB device or a different partition in the computer as a backup.

    2. Click the "Start" button and click "Run."

    3. Type "services.msc" (without the quotation marks" in the "Open" box and press "Enter" to open the services management console.

    4. Right-click "Backup Exec System Recovery" and click "Stop." Close the services management console.

    5. Click "Start" and "Run" then type "taskmgr" (without the quotation marks) in the box. Press "Enter" to open the task manager window.

    6. Go to the "Processes" tab and click "VProTray.exe" then click the "End Process" button. Click "OK" to end the process then close the task manager.

    7. Click "Start" and "Run," then type "regedit" (without the quotation marks). Press "Enter" to open the registry editor.

    8. Expand the "Computer" icon in the registry editor and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE." Delete the following registry hives in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:

      - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery

      - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Installed Recovery Technology

      - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Installer\User Data\S-1-5-18\Products\CD339D1422F576B4588A92CCF2A07A1D

      - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\{41D933DC-5F22-4B67-85A8-29CC2F0AA7D1}

      - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Backup Exec System Recovery

    9. Expand "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" and delete the registry hive:

      Close the registry editor.

    10. Go to the "C" drive and delete the folder directory: "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery."

    11. Go to the directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Licenses" and open each file in the folder using Notepad. This contains the licenses for all Symantec products, so each file must be opened to see which ones belong to BESR. Look for an entry, "Backup Exec System Recovery" in each file. Delete those files for BESR.

    12. Reboot the computer.
