    1. Open the DOS file to be edited with any text editor.

    2. Set a name for the variable to be incremented. For example, type "set /a var=1" to set a variable with the name "var" to an initial value of 1.

    3. Increment the variable. Type "set /a var=var+1" to increment the variable by 1.
