if u r using MS word 2007 or 2010, u could directly save as word to pdf format.
But if u have a lot of files need to converted into pdf format, some desktop tool could be a good option, as such tool could help u batch convert the files into pdf within a few clicks...here is a tool which i always use for your reference:
