How can I set Winamp as my default media player??

07/25/2011 05:19 by KatyAmeglio

Every time I open files, I must click to choose it open by winamp. It might save my time if I can set winamp as my default media player. I have tried to figure out a way to set it but failed. Can anyone tell me how to make this setting? Thank you for your help.

  • I’m confusing about this. Winamp might ask if you set it as your default media player when you installed it. Maybe you ignored that notice before. Never mind. Set it in this way:
Go to control panel on your computer.
Click on Add or Remove programs
On the left at the bottom, click the Set program access and defaults.
    Click custom
Go down to media player and select Winamp as your default player.

  • Right click a media file.
Click properties, there will be a window. Find “open with. On the right hand, you will see “change” button. Click it. And another window opened. Select the winamp. Don’t forget to check the “always open” stuff under it. Then ok. That’s it.

  • Try this

1 Open Winamp. Right-click on the player and click "Options," then "Preferences."

2 Click "File Types." Click "All" to associate Winamp with all multimedia files types. Click "Audio Only" or "Video Only" to associate Winamp with all audio or video file types. Click "Restore File Associations At Winamp Start-up" to ensure that the selected file types are always associated with Winamp.
3 Click "Launch Winamp For Audio CDs" to make Winamp the default player when audio CDs are inserted in your CD/DVD-ROM drive. Click "Close" to save your preferences.

  • Follow the steps,

1.Open the Options menu and click Preferences (Ctrl+P). Winamp displays the Preferences dialog.
2.Within the General Preferences section of Preferences, click File Types. You may have to double-click General Preferences if you don't see File Types listed.
3.Select the file types you want to be associated with Winamp. You can also click All to use Winamp as the default player for all supported file types.
4.To make sure that Winamp keeps the file associations you assign, select Restore file associations at Winamp start-up. Whenever you start Winamp, the selections you've made in the File Types preferences will be checked and reassigned.
5.Select Launch Winamp for audio CDs to use Winamp as the default CD player for your PC. When you insert CDs into the CD-ROM drive, Winamp will launch and play the CD.

  • It's very easy,

    1. Launch Winamp and press Ctrl+P.

    2. Click File Types in the left pane, then click Audio Only button to select all music file type.
Check Launch Winamp for audio CDs if you want.
Set Winamp as Default Music Player
    3. Click Close. Now, Winamp is your default music player.

  • OMG u guys are so dumb u know that? Here is the correct method and I found it myself. thought I could help. Right click an MP3, select "Open With.." but do NOT choose "Open with winamp" yet! Instead, select "choose Program..." and a new window will pop then that's the time you choose winamp BUT before you click OK. Check the box below which says "Always choose the selected program to open this kind of file" Case solved! *flyaway*
