  • The same thing happened to me all you have to do is click Control Panel > Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web then uncheck lock desktop items. Hope this helped.

  • I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "sidebar". You might have created a toolbar (and I suspect this is what happened) or you might have Common Tasks showing.

  • keith, I have the same issue.  it is in fact a "Sidebar" similar to those found in later versions of Windows, it contains "Toolbars" within it, I intentionally invoked it by dragging the "My Computer" icon to the right hand side of the screen, the thing is I do not find it satisfactory and would like to remove it, Right clicking offers the "Exit" option but it returns on next start up.

  • hey, polly, then right-click on an empty area of the Taskbar (at the bottom of the screen) and you should see an entry for Toolbars. Slide your cursor to the right and you will see the toolbars currently available for the Taskbar. One of them will be My Computer and you'll have the option to close it. I don't have an XP box on right now so can't tell you whether you'll get the "close" option by left-clicking or right-clicking it but I'm sure you can figure it out from there.
