Launch the Acrobat Standard or Professional application.
Select "Combine Files" under the File menu.
Click the "Add Files" button when the dialog box opens.
Locate and select your first PDF file to be combined.
Click "OK."
Repeat steps 2 to 4 to select your files to be combined.
Change the sequence of the documents to be combined by selecting the document. Click the "Move Up" or "Move Down" buttons in the dialog box until your files are in the desired order.
Click the "Next" button on the lower right.
Make sure the box is checked for "Merge files into a single PDF file."
Click the "Create" button and wait for the application to finish compiling the documents.
Click the "Save" button (on the lower right).
Type in the file name of your new PDF and select the destination folder.
Click the "Save" button.
Open your document in Omnipage. The Omnipage software suite contains exporting functions and a PDF creator as a printer setting.
In the top menu bar, go to File and select Save As.
Select your destination and type your file name.
Select PDF as the File Type. You can choose to customize the PDF file type by clicking Options. In the PDF file type options, PDF/A is the basic format that can be widely accessed. Options to create tagged PDF files are available depending on the Omnipage application version.
Click Save. Your document is still open in Omnipage, but your PDF is saved in your designated location.
In the top menu bar or main menu of your application, select the Print option. Omnipage Professional automatically installs a virtual PDF printer that can be accessed from most applications without the need to launch Omnipage.
In the Print dialog box, select the ScanSoft PDF Create! printer from the drop-down menu of available printers.
Click Print.
Select the destination and type the name for your PDF file.
Click OK. Your document remains open in your application, but your PDF file is saved on your computer.
Download Able2Extract Professional 5.0 (see Resources). This program is linked to directly from Microsoft as a trusted converter for HTML documents. The converter will work well even for complex HTML files. The software is available for a free trial download; for long-term usage, you'll need to purchase a license to the software.
Install Able2Extract Professional 5.0 by double-clicking on the downloaded "InstallAble2ExtractPro.exe" file. Click through the on-screen prompts to complete the install procedure.
Open the installed Able2Extract program and select the HTML file you want to convert. Click to convert the file to a Microsoft Word document. Your final result will still be a PDF, but first you'll need to get a text version of your HTML file saved on your computer.
Open the recently converted file in Microsoft Word with a PDF converter add-on installed.
Click the "Office" button located at the very top left-hand corner of the MS Word window (in the Word 2007 version).
Mouse over the "Save As" option. This will pop up additional options, including "PDF or XPS." Click on this option. By default, the dialogue box that pops up will be set to PDF; type in the desired file name for your PDF file.
Click "Save" to confirm the final conversion of the document into PDF format. Your former HTML file is now in PDF format.
Open your PDF document by double clicking on its title or icon. Adobe Acrobat will start automatically.
Click "File" in the top menu bar on the left side and select "Export">>"XML 1.0" from the list. See the image here for reference.
Select "Desktop" from the save window on the left side and click "Save" at the bottom of the window.
Open Microsoft Excel and click the Office icon in the upper left corner.
Select "Open" from the menu.
Click "Desktop" on the left side of the open window. Locate and select the PDF you exported as an XML document. Click "Open" at the bottom of the window.
Select "Open as an XMLtable" when asked how to import the XML file. Click "Okay" at the bottom of the Open XML window. Click "Okay" when prompted about creating a schema (there are no settings in this window).
Delete all columns except the one labeled "TD" as they contain extraneous XML information. Reformat the information from the PDF as you choose and save to a desired location by selecting Office icon>>"Save">>"Okay."
Convert your PDF document to Word using PDFOnline.com's web-based tool. Point your browser to PDFOnline.com. Select the "PDF to Word" tab, followed by the link that reads "Upload Your PDF." The converted file will be in the RTF (Rich Text File) format, which Word can easily load, though RTF does not have all the features of a Word document.
Browse for your file. Click the "Upload and Convert" button. The PDFOnline conversion application will convert the PDF to the Word format. When the heading "Thank You for Waiting" appears, click the link that reads "Please Right-Click Here to Download the Word File." Remember which folder you downloaded the converted file to. When the download has completed, if your operating system is a version of Windows, open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the Word file. If your system is Macintosh, navigate with Finder.
Scan the RTF file for viruses or other malware. Open the file once the virus scan completes and verify it has the contents you expected. Open the file in Word and save it as a true Word document with a .doc extension.
Convert the PDF document to Word using software you install on your computer. Perform this step if you do not have access to the web conversion tool described earlier, or want a conversion utility that involves none of the security risk that web file up and downloads present.
Point a browser to PDFOnline.com and select the "PDF to Word" tab. In the column to the right of the file uploader, click the link that reads "Convert PDF to Word for Your PC." Download and install the inexpensive EasyConverter Desktop application, for which a free trial is available. Open the software and use its interface to navigate to and convert your PDF files.
Save the document in WordPerfect. You will want to save it as a normal WordPerfect document with the file extension ".wpd."
Open up your Internet browser. Go to Zamzar.com, a free online PDF converter.
Click on the "Choose File" button. This will bring up a window which will allow you to search for the document you want to convert. When you find it, click on it to select it and click "OK."
Click on the arrow in Step 2 on the website to bring up a pull down menu. This is a list of formats you can choose. Click on "pdf."
Type in your email address in the box under "Step 3." Then click on the "Convert" button. The document will begin to convert to pdf. The pdf will be sent to your email address.
Open the email from Zamzar. There will be an hyperlink in the email that will take you to where you can download a pdf of the document you sent. Download the attachment and open it in Adobe Reader.
Go to http://www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ (you can click on the website link in the Reference section).
Click on the "Browse" button in section one, navigate to the document you want to convert to PDF format and double-click it (supported file formats include MS Word, both DOC and RTF, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, HTML, TXT and JPEG). The maximum file size allowed is 2MB. If your original file is over the size limit, see the link in the Resource section for BSL Premium Online Service (free during the testing phase). Sign up for the service and click on "BSL Premium Online Service" link in section one instead.
Type the new name for the converted PDF file in section two.
Type in your e-mail address in section 3. Click on the "Terms and Privacy Policy" link and read through the document.
Click on the "Convert to PDF" button, by doing which you agree to the Terms and Privacy policy.
Check your inbox for a letter from "PDF Online - Document Name." Download the attachment and double-click the file to open with Adobe Reader.
Open Excel and click "Page Layout."
Click "Page Setup" located in the "Page Setup" group.
Go to the "Print Quality" list and select either "600 dpi" for publishing offline using maximum output or "300 dpi" for publishing online using low-resolution output.
Click the "Microsoft Office Button" and choose "Save As." Next, select "PDF."
Click "Standard (Publishing online and printing)" if you selected 600 dpi in Step 3; select "Minimum size (Publishing online)" if you selected 300 dpi in Step 3.
Visit Zamzar's website (see link in "References," below).
Click "Browse" and locate your PUB file.
Choose "PDF" in the "Convert File(s) To" drop-down menu.
Enter your email address in the text box.
Click "Convert." Zamzar will send you an email when your file is done converting.
Click the link in the email to download your file.
Open a PDF document with Adobe Acrobat.
Select the "Document" option from the top navigation bar.
Select "Recognize Text Using OCR."
Click the "Start" option.
Select the page or pages to scan, and then click "OK." The OCR engine will proceed through the document. At each questionable word, the OCR engine will provide a text window for input.
Type the changes into the text boxes, or accept the OCR interpretation as prompted. Proceed through the document until all text has been recognized.
Click the "File" option from the top navigation bar and select the "Save" option to save the changes to the PDF. The PDF document is now searchable and readable by text-reading applications.
Load the scanned images into your computer and save them to a single folder.
Go to OpenOffice.org and download the latest stable version of the application. Then install it to your computer. A shortcut to the program will appear on your desktop.
Click on the OpenOffice shortcut to open the suite. In the suite options dialog, select the "Text" option and the Writer program will open.
Go to the menu and click "Insert," then "Picture" and select "From File." In the dialog box that opens, browse to one of the images you loaded in step1 and select it. It will be pasted into the document. Click on the image and use the controls to resize it to what you want for the document.
Repeat step 4 for all the images you want to bring into the document. Type to resize them so that you avoid any large areas of blank page.
Select "File" and click "Export to PDF." In the dialog box that opens, select the layout and features you would like for the PDF file (such as whether it will have notes or bookmarks). Also choose whether the document will have a password or not. Then click "OK" and your PDF document will be saved.
Download and open STP (Scan to PDF), a free software to convert scans and JPEG image files to PDF. (There are also several fairly expensive programs used for this purpose, including Adobe Acrobat.)
Scan your document using STP, or convert previously scanned images to JPEG format. You can do this by opening the pictures in any photo editing software, going to "File->Save As," and changing the file format to ".jpg" in the drop-down menu.
Click "Make PDF" to create a PDF from your scanned pictures, or click "JPEG(s) to PDF" and browse and select the pages of your document, in order, for previously scanned images. You can adjust the quality of the image to PDF conversion by sliding the marker under "JPEG Quality" to the left and right.
Download and install a free print to PDF program, such as PrimoPDF. This will allow you to print images to PDF without having to convert all of your scans to JPEG format first.
Move all the pages of your scanned document to a specific folder. Make sure that the file names are in order; for example, page one is named "001.PNG," page two, "002.PNG," and so on. This will ensure that the pages are in order when you print your document.
Right click on the first picture in the folder and select "Print" to bring up the Photo Printing Wizard. Click "Next." Select all the pictures in the folder, then click "Next" again.
Select "Full Page Fax Print (Centered and Rotated)" so that your text does not get distorted; click "Next."
Under "Printer," select "PrimoPDF," then click "Next" and finally "Finish."
Change the file name and destination folder by clicking "..." on the PrimoPDF window that pops up. Make sure that the format is set to "ebook" or PrimoPDF will not create a PDF with multiple pages. Click "OK" to save your file as a PDF.
Download and install a PDF writing application. While some of these programs are fee-based, such as Adobe Acrobat, there are freeware versions available.
Launch MS Publisher and open the document that you want to convert to a PDF. Click once on the "File" drop down menu and select the "Open" option. Use the "Look in" menu to access the folder to which the Publisher document is saved. Highlight the document name, and click once on "Open."
Click once on the "File" drop down menu and select the "Print" option. This action will launch a separate "Print" dialogue window. Use the "Name" drop down menu to select the PDF program, such as "Adobe PDF" or "novaPDF." Click once on the "OK" button.
Use the "Save in" drop down menu to select a folder in which to save the converted PDF document. Type a name for the PDF file in the "File name" field. Some PDF applications will automatically use the source file name, but this can be changed by highlighting the text in the "File name" field and typing over it. Click once on the "Save" button to complete the conversion process.
Download the printer driver plug-in of your choice. Some examples are PDF Creator, PDF Printer Driver, PDFtypewriter or CutePDF. There is a link to PDF Creator in the "Resources" section of this article. Most PDF printer plug-ins are packaged in an executable file format, which you will need to run to install the program. If your plug-in is in a ZIP or other archive file, you will need to extract it before installation.
Open your TIFF file in your preferred image-editing program.
Select "Print" from the drop-down menu. Choose the Adobe PDF printer and click the "Print" button. Use the "Property" button to adjust file properties for your PDF printer if necessary.
Choose a unique name for your PDF document and the destination folder to which you want to save your file.
Click "Save". Your TIFF file has been converted to a PDF document that's smaller, easier to transfer to other users and can be read by most recipients.
