Use the left mouse button to select workers. Right-click the resource (food, timber, metal or oil) you want to workers to collect.
Left-click the scout unit (which will vary depending on your nation). Right-click the area on the mini-map you want the scout to move to. As the scout moves through the map, undiscovered areas and resources on the map will be revealed.
Press the "G" key to build a barracks where you can produce combat units. Decide early on if you're going to rush (attack in the early game with early units), turtle (build defensive buildings and mass combat units in a closed off base) or tech (build enough defensive units to hold off any attacks until you get more powerful late game units).
Press the "A" key to produce archers and the "G" key to produce spearmen.
Use the left-mouse button to select archers and right-click to move them behind any melee units (such as swordsmen or horsemen) in battle. The same can be said for late game units such as tanks and infantry. Move any units low on health to the back of the battle or to your base to be healed.
Use your scouts and armies to locate key territories around the map (as indicated by a flashing icon on the mini-map). Send a worker unit to build an outpost on the territory to claim it. Send military units to defend the territory.
Familiarize yourself with the controls. No matter which platform you're playing Call of Duty on, it is imperative that you learn the controls for the game or else you'll find yourself perpetually face down in the mud. Check your game instruction booklet or check out the simple list of instructions on the Star Pulse website.
Take advantage of the cover available in the game. As you move through the landscapes, you'll find all sorts of buildings and objects that can be used as cover from enemy fire. Just remember that you can't stay there forever, but you can move between solid objects as the bullets fly.
Aim carefully. Stop your movement and take aim at the enemy before taking each shot. This will shorten the time you spend on your enemies and keep you from giving them free shots at you while you waste bullets on the wall behind them.
Pick up weapons. You are allotted space for two weapons plus your standard pistols, so choose carefully. Each type of weapon has its own properties, so consider your surroundings if you are confronted with a situation where you must put down one weapon to pick up another.
Keep your weapons loaded. Make sure your clip is fully charged before going into battle. If it's a particularly epic battle, you may need to reload at some point, but you'll want to avoid reloading for as long as possible.
Use grenades strategically. Grenades are not easily replenished, so a room full of enemies is often a good choice. Anytime there are several enemies clustered in one area, or confined in a room, this is an excellent opportunity for a grenade.
Conceal your approach with smoke grenades. If you find yourself in a tight spot or in an open area with no good cover, launch a smoke grenade to provide you with a little bit of safety for your approach. Just remember that though an enemy may not be able to see through the smoke, he can move through it, so don't rely on the smoke grenades as your sole cover all the time.
Download and install the COD4 Mod Tools from Fileshack. Open COD4 Radiant. This is the software used to create maps for COD4. Upon first opening, COD4 Radiant will ask you to locate the "cod4.prj" file. You can find this in the folder entitled "bin." Edit COD4 Radiant's preferences to set up the editor for making COD4 maps.
Familiarize yourself with COD4 Radiant's interface. Become comfortable using the views available to you, and how the tools operate. There are many tutorials available online for beginning mappers.
Build your first map. Your first level should be very simple: a single room. You build walls using simple shapes known as "brushes." Build a square box, and place a player spawn point in the room.
Add a light to your room. This configurable light source will give your scene life. You may specify the power of the light and the color of the source, among other things.
Texture your level. Apply textures to all the geometry in your level, most importantly to walls and floors/ceilings. Work with the textures to ensure they fit your brushes properly.
Compile your map using COD4 Compile Tools (which are included in the COD4 Mod Tools package). This will prepare your map for being played. Run your map to test it. Make sure that everything works properly.
Decide what types of information you need to backup on a regular basis. Some things you may want to consider backing up regularly are email, documents, photos, application data, settings and game save files. Have an estimate of how much space the files you want to backup occupy.
Choose a traditional backup program if you need to backup smaller files on a regular basis. This type of backup program is great for backing up important documents that you edit or create on a daily basis, or to backup your email account. A few good traditional backup programs are Windows Backup, Backup MyPC and Second Copy.
Pick a disk-imaging backup program if you need to backup the entire contents of your hard drive. Disk-imaging backup programs will make an "image" that contains an exact copy of all files on your hard drive, including system data, operating systems and programs. Good disk-imaging programs are Norton Ghost and True Image.
Set your budget. Backup programs can range from a few bucks to hundreds of dollars depending on the features they offer. A personal computer does not need the same high-end backup program that a corporate server would, so be sure the program you choose fits your needs.
Check out some reviews before you buy. You can find objective reviews for many different backup programs online at pcmag.com.
Build the colony ship required to start new colonies. In order to be able to build a colony ship, you first must have researched the necessary technologies. From the "Shipyard" menu, click the "Colony Ship" located under the "Civil Ships" section. If the ship is grayed out, you do not have the technology or resources yet to build the ship. Click the "Techtree" button to view the required research. Once you have met the technology requirements, gather the resources listed until you have enough. When ready, click "Build" from the colony ship display to construct the vessel.
Find a suitable planet to habitat. Click the "Galaxy" button. Each planet uses a series of three numbers that represent its coordinates. The first number is the galaxy, followed by the system number and finally the planetary slot. Each planet in a system falls into one of the number slots. Any slot that does not have a planet listed in it is inhabitable. Locate an empty slot in the system of your choosing and make a note of its coordinates.
Send the colonization mission. Click the "Fleet" button. Select the colony ship and click "Continue." Enter the coordinates for your new colony into the "Choose Target" screen. Click "Continue" and select the "Colonization" button followed by "Continue" again. The colony ship will be dispatched. Once it reaches the location, it will establish a new colony, adding it to your empire.
Transport resources to the new colony and begin building the infrastructure. Do not send any cargo ships or resources along with the colony ship; wait until the colony is established first. Send cargo ships to the new planet using the same method. Once the new colony has enough resources, begin building up the infrastructure and defenses.
Sell items in quantities that people would most likely want to buy them in. A chest-piece will be less likely to sell if a buyer has to buy more than one of them at once, and a single mythril arrow is less likely to sell than another seller's large stack.
Charge high prices, even beyond the norm, if your item is even moderately in demand. Items that are sought after will often sell in less than a minute on Runescape, even if they are available cheaper.
Put items up for auction during high-traffic times, such as the hours directly after public schools end session or on weekend nights when players are likely to spend several hours playing.
Apply the old adage of buying low and selling high; if you buy 1,000 arrows for 300 gold pieces per arrow, then sell them for 400 gold pieces per arrow, you can make a massive profit in a couple of minutes. The best way to make this pay off is to skim through many deals, looking for one that is rare or high quantity, and also priced far below the expected cost.
Perform the work that others don't want to and collect raw materials for crafters. Since their trades often pay handsomely, they will be willing to part with an unfair amount of money to get the necessary resources quickly. Shearing sheep and mining are two activities that pay well in the Grand Exchange.
