  • Structured query language (SQL) training may take many forms. You can learn it from books, classroom instruction or online. Some options may be free while others may cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

    Books

If you have 10 minutes, Ben Forta's book, "Sam's Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes," may be your solution to entry SQL training. There's also a book available in the popular "Dummies" series, "SQL for Dummies," that can take you from introductory to intermediate level. You may find "Learning SQL" by Alan Beaulieu helpful in mastering the fundamentals.

    Classroom

Many students find classroom instruction is the best method for them to learn a new concept. They like the ability to interact with other students and have their questions answered on the spot by a qualified instructor. Introduction to SQL training courses are offered by a number of providers in most large cities. A few that have branches in many locations are Webucator, Intertech and ONLC. Many vocational schools, community colleges and universities offer SQL training as well.

    Online

Online training may take several forms. You may use a website like Lynda.com or SQLCourse.com to provide free step-by-step tutorials. Many of the training centers that provide classroom training also provide virtual training. Prices for virtual training are usually the same as classroom training. You save money by not having travel, food or lodging expenses.
