edit excel spreadsheet in autocad file using

01/04/2012 17:26 by Markisabell

I have an autocad dwg file with an excel spreadsheet in it. I need to edit the spreadsheet with openoffice because I do not have office installed. How do I get the autocad app to recognize open office as the program for editing excel files?

  • Not sure whether this will help, but give it a try:

Right-click the dwg file, select "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program." choose

  • I guess you could try there steps to edit this excel spreadsheet since you don't have office excel. One is copy excel from autocad to, then edit excel in your openoffice, finally, copy it back to autocad.

Step 1. copy excel from autocad

    1. Open that dwg file in autocad. Select the object using whichever method best suits.
    2. Right click your mouse after the objects are selected. A contextual sub menu will appear. Select "Clipboard" and "Paste" and the object will be placed on the clipboard.

    Step 2. import to openoffice

    1. Open an OpenOffice database file. Click on the "Tables" icon on the left-side navigation pane to go to the "Tables" view. Select "Edit" from the menu bar then select "Paste." The "Copy Table" dialog will appear. Enter a name for the table in the "Table Name" field. In the Options section, make sure "Definition and Data" is selected. If the data you selected in the spreadsheet has column names at the top, be sure to check the "Use first line as column names" check box. This will copy the column headers into the field names of the new table.
    2. Click the "Next" button to go to the "Apply Columns" dialog box. This dialog lets you select which columns of the copied data you want to create in the new database table. In most case, you will want to click the ">>" button to select all columns. If you want to copy over only selected columns, click the column name on the left side then click the ">" button to move it to the right side of the dialog. When you have selected all the columns you want, click "Create." You may be asked if you want to create a primary key for the table. Click "Yes" unless you want to use one of the existing columns as the primary key.

Step 3. after editing, paste it back to autocad.

hope it works. If you find one solution, please share it here. Thanks.

  • How does (s)he (and do I) get the autocad app to recognize open office as the program for editing excel files?

    The question remains.

Editing excel with OOO is intuitive--no problem. That was not the question. By default, Autocad won't let the drafter browse for a data link w/o excel installed. No excel=brickwall. How do we chip away at the mortar? At work, I like excel, but the wife would geld me if I dipped into the kids' college fund to pay for my own.

    Thanks and Regards
