Earlier the VLC MP had a facility to record. The latest 1.1.11 doesn't have this. How to get VLC player with recording facility?

  • Here is the instruction to record Short Clips.

    1. Open up your VLC and the video file you desired to record a short clip.
    2. Click "View" and select "Advanced Controls."
    3. Press "Play" to start playback of the video. Use the seek bar to find the place in the video from where you would like to begin recording.
    4. Click the "Record" button in the VLC toolbar to begin recording. When you reach the point at which you want to end the recording, press the "Record" button again. The video will be saved to your default "Videos" folder.

  • Open VLC
Go to “File > Open Capture Device”:Refresh both lists, choose “WinFast” and “RealTek”, and configure Audio device:
Make “stream/save” checkbox and go to “Settings…”:Acknowledge and go back.

  • The recording button does not appear in the VLC interface. To add the recording button to the interface, open VLC's "View" menu and click "Advanced Controls." The recording button appears on the lower portion of the VLC program interface, between the "Play" button and the time slider. The recording button stays enabled until you click "Advanced Controls" in the "View" menu again, even if you close and restart the program.

  • To record a stream you first need to get the streaming URL. You can mostly do that be right-clicking the video picture and selecting “Properties…”
Look at the “Location” info on the Properties dialog
Mark and copy the link by pressing CTRL+C and start up VLC. Now go to Media -> Convert/Save… click on the Network tab and paste the URL you copied from the stream earlier into the text box.
The next thing you have to do is to click on Convert / Save
First, enter the file name of the destination file including the extension, e.g. NasaTV.asf
Tick the “Display the output” check box to see how the stream looks like while you’re recording. Then you select the Profile, which defines how the file format will be recorded as and click “Start”. I usually use “Video – WMV + WMA (ASF)”.

  • You can download old versions of vlc at http://www.oldapps.com. Just did it and it works like a charm! Had the same problem you did; was asking around and nobody could understand that the new version was different!

  • Get it right! The LATEST VLC players are the ones with the "Record" button except for the latest 2.1.2 which has many glitches and does not work properly.
