Can I pause my torrent that are downloading and then shut down my computer?

07/19/2011 08:26 by ThomasOakes

I'm using utorrent. But now I must turn off the computer. Can I just pause my torrent which is still downloading, turn the computer off? can I continues to download the files next day when I start my computer? Is there any danger? Thanks.

  • You can just pause uTorrent via the big red X in top right of window. And then shut down your computer.
When you turn your computer back on it, start up uTorrent. Then uTorrent loads should automatically continue your download.

  • No, I use uTorrent. Unless the file is something I need right now, I prefer not to leave my laptop on when I'm asleep

  • Yes. You can pause the torrent without any security issue to consider. And when you start your computer next day, you will resume it.

  • Yes, you can stop or pause it and resume it later. That also applies even for days. Just to help, you can set up the software to automatically shut down the computer when the download has completed

  • Most torrent programs like Utorrent will do that, they will automatically start from where you stopped so long as you are connected to the Internet.

You can also right-click on the torrent you are downloading, and hit pause as you need to.

  • This is not an answer.  How can one get UTorrent to shut down so you can close your macbook pro.  complication perhaps?:  I've got both bittorrent and utorrent on the machine.  Each keeps prompting me to be the default torrent downloader.  I fear this may have contributed to the problem.  Both used to run at the same time, but I'm not really having great success with either program anymore, because the tendency is for both programs to stop downloading.  Worse, after choosing defaults for a period, I can't get the computer off.  I'm now on battery, letting it rundown, hoping that will do the trick.  Write me at m00000@charter.net

  • This is because if your seed/leach ratio is not good,ie if number of seeeds are low and number ofleach is high then your downloading will be slow..

if you download next time look for a torrent with more number of seds than a leach

  • Yes you can pause a torrent and then turn off your computer. But it may lose some progress . For example,if the torrent has gone to 60 %, it can go to 56% or 54% after you reboot your PC.

  • You can pause utorrent and start again automatically when you start the pc laptop again. What I've noticed though is that some times it takes longer than usual to download the same size file for example an 8gb Image usually takes 1 to 2 hours. and another 8 GB image the next day can take up to 4 Hours ?? I don't understand why if it's the same size can anyone help please thanks in advance
