Open an INDD file in Adobe InDesign. Click the "File" menu, then "Export."
Enter a new filename for the document if you wish and navigate to the folder where you want the document to be saved.
Select "Adobe PDF" from the "Format" (Mac OS) or the "Save as Type (Windows) menu. Click "Save." In the "Export Adobe PDF" dialog box, click "Export." Wait while InDesign creates the PDF.
Open CorelDRAW. Press "Ctrl + I" to import a file.
Select "PDF -- Adobe Portable Document Format" from the "File of Type" list. Navigate to the folder where you saved the PDF file. Select the file and click "Import." The "Import PDF" dialog box will open.
Specify whether you want to import the text as either text or curves. Choose "Text" if you have a lot of text and want to be able to edit it in CorelDRAW. Choose "Curves" if you have little text and don't need to edit it. It will convert the text to curves, maintaining the exact appearance of the text from your InDesign file.
Select the pages you want to import from the PDF if it is a multipage document. Click "OK."
Click the document to import the PDF. Press "Enter" to insert it into the center of the page, or click and drag to resize the PDF.
Click the "File" menu, then "Save" to save your CorelDRAW document.
Open the INDD file in Adobe InDesign.
Click the "File" menu, then "Export."
Enter a new file name for the document and specify the destination folder. Choose "Adobe PDF" from the "Save as Type" menu ("Format" in Mac OS). Click "Save." Click "Export" to export the document to PDF.
Open the PDF you just saved, using Adobe Acrobat.
Click the "Tools" menu. Select "Advanced Editing," then "TouchUp Text Tool" to edit text in the document.
Click the text you want to edit, then drag your cursor over the text to select it.
Type new text to replace the existing text. Click "Edit," then "Delete" to remove the selected text. Right-click the text, then select "Properties" to make changes to the text attributes. Click the "Text" tab in the "TouchUp Properties" dialog box. Specify the changes you want to make to font, font size, spacing and text color.
Click the "Tools" menu. Select "Advanced Editing," then "TouchUp Object Tool" to make changes to any objects or images.
Click an object you want to edit. Press "Ctrl," then click any other objects you want to add to the selection.
Click and drag the object to move it to a new location. Press "Shift" while you drag to constrain the movement to straight horizontal or vertical directions. Resize the object by dragging the handles inward or outward. Press "Shift" to constrain the proportions.
Right-click the selection, then specify any options you want to edit the object. You can replace an image, flip the image to form a mirror effect and rotate the image in different directions.
Click "File," then "Save" to save the PDF document once you're satisfied with the changes.
Download a magazine template from the Internet. Most can be downloaded for free. The Adobe Marketplace & Exchange offers some free, some paid InDesign templates. Designfreebies.org is another source for free InDesign templates. 48HourPrint.com is a source for free MS Publisher templates.
Click the downloaded file (usually a ZIP file) to extract its contents.
Click the extracted INDD file to launch Adobe InDesign or if using MS Publisher, click the extracted PUB file.
Replace the template's dummy text with your own text. Open your word processing program, select the text that you would like to add to your magazine by clicking and dragging the cursor then right-click, and select "Copy." Inside InDesign or Publisher, select the dummy text, click "Edit" then "Paste." This action will replace the dummy text with your own.
Replace the template's images with your own. Click the template's image that you would like to replace, click "File" then "Place" in InDesign. Select the file that you would like to import then click "OK." In Publisher, click on the image that you would like to replace. Click "Insert" then "Picture" and select "From File." Select the picture that you would like to replace, click the arrow next to "Insert" then click "Link to File."
Click "File," then "Save As" in InDesign. Type a file name, then click "Save." This action saves the file as an INDD or for future editing purposes in InDesign. In Publisher click "File," then "Save As." Type a file name, then click "Save."
Click "File" then "Export" in InDesign. Type a filename, then click "Save As Type." Choose Adobe PDF, then click "Save." This action saves the file as a PDF, the standard format for printing. In Publisher, click "File," then choose "Save & Send." Select "Create PDF/XPS Document," then click "Create PDF/XPS." Select "PDF" in the "Save as Type" drop-down box. Type a file name. Click "OK," then "Publish."
Click "File," then "Print Booklet" in InDesign. This printing feature automatically aligns the pages sequentially so that the pages end up in the correct order after being folded and collated. Click "Print Preset," then choose "Current Document Settings." Click "Print." In Publisher, click "File," then "Print." Click "Settings" to make changes appropriate to your printer, then click "Print."
Order your pages, and nest them inside each other appropriately.
Lay the pages on a hard surface with the cover facing up. Staple the pages from the back cover. Position the staples on the spine approximately one-quarter from the top of the magazine and the other one-quarter from the bottom.
Fold the magazine down the spine.
Open Microsoft Word. For best results, use the most recent version of Microsoft Word.
Select Open from the File menu.
Select "All Files" or "All Readable Files" from the File Type drop-down menu and navigate to the location on your hard drive where the file is stored. Its name should show up in the menu of available files that can be opened.
Select the file name and then click open. Microsoft Word will open the WPD file on the screen.
Navigate to the website OpenOffice.org and download the Open Office software to your computer. It is free.
Install Open Office and open the application called Open Office Writer (looks similar to Microsoft Word).
Select Open from the File menu, locate your Word Perfect file and click Open. It should open on the screen.
Navigate with your web browser to AbiSource.com and download AbiWord, an open-source word processing program that runs on Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The software is free.
Install AbiWord, then open the application.
Select Open from the File menu, locate your Word Perfect file and click Open. It should open on the screen.
Navigate with your web browser to a free online conversion tool like what you find at Zamzar.com.
Click the Browse button to upload your file, then choose the File Format you want to convert to.
Enter your email address and click the Convert button. Some companies email you the link to download the file when it's ready; others email you the file as an attachment.
Install MacLinkPlus on your Mac.
Launch MacLinkPlus.
Click the "Add" button in the main MacLinkPlus window.
Select your WPD files to be translated. You may also drag your files from the desktop or other folder and drop them into the MacLinkPlus window. Once all your WPD files are listed in the MacLinkPlus window you can go to the next step.
Click the "Translate" button in MacLinkPlus. You will then be provided with options to translate your WPD files to a file type you can use, for example, a plain text file, rich text file, or Microsoft Word document.
Open your favorite web browser.
Go to Zamzar.com by selecting "Open Location" under the "File" menu of your browser.
Click the "Browse" button under "Step 1" on the Zamzar web page.
Select your WPD files to translate.
Select the format to convert your files to under "Step 2" on the Zamzar web page.
Type in your email address to receive your converted files under "Step 3" on the Zamzar web page.
Click the "Convert" button on the Zamzar web page.
Retrieve your converted WPD files from your email account.
Open Microsoft Office on your computer.
Click the "Microsoft Office Button." Click "Open." This will launch the "Open" dialog box.
Make sure "All Files" is selected next to the "File Name" box. Browse to select your WPD file from your computer. Click "Open."
Click the "Microsoft Office" button. Select "Word Options."
Click the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to "Compatibility Options." If your document was created in WordPerfect 5.x or 6.x, select the corresponding program under "Lay out this document as if it was created in." Under the "Show Document Content" section on the "Advanced" tab, click "Font Substitution" to choose which fonts to use.
Click "Save As." Rename the file. Click the "Save As Type" list to make sure it will save as a .doc file extension. Click "Save."
Click the icon or link to the .wpd file that you found on a website or that was sent to you in an email.
Click the radio button next to "Save File" in the dialog box that appears.
Hit the "OK" button. The .wpd file will be in the location on your desktop that you have designated for downloads.
Open Microsoft Word or WordPerfect.
Hit "File" in the main menu bar.
Scroll down and click "Open."
Find the .wpd file that you downloaded. Make sure that the "File of Type" field is on "All Files (*.*)" if you are using Word.
Highlight the file and hit the "OK" or "Open" button. The file will open.
Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click "Microsoft Office" in the list of program groups and then click "Microsoft Word" to open the word processor.
Click the "File" menu item and select "Open." Select "All Files" in the "File Type" drop-down box.
Double-click the file in the list of directories shown in the center of the dialog box. This opens the WPD file in your Microsoft Word application.
