Click on the desktop shortcut to start the Inkscape application.
Go to the toolbar on the left and choose the "Spiral" tool. Drag on the canvas to draw your swirl. When you are done, you can increase the number of spirals in the swirl by dragging on the points at either end.
In the options at the bottom click on "Stroke." In the dialog, choose the color you want for the "Stroke" and the thickness of the line.
Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save." In the dialog that appears, name the file and save it as an SVG file, which is the native format for Inkscape.
Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save As." Save the swirl you created as a PNG file to create a transparent border around the swirl. This makes it easy to import the swirl into other applications. Repeat this process to create other swirls in other sizes, colors and shapes.
